“Building Better Futures" Community Award

This award will be given to a Canadian Home Builders’ Association member and/or community leader who has gone beyond the industry and its partners, to assist in the community when and where a need has been felt.  Nominations for this award are to be submitted in writing to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association - Victoria. This award will not necessarily be presented every year.
 

Bill Wansbrough Memorial Award

This award honors the contribution made by Bill Wansbrough to the residential construction industry.  It is donated in his memory to recognize significant individual achievements that do not necessarily fit into any of the categories of the CARE Awards.  It will exist and be utilized by the CARE Award judges at their discretion. This award will not necessarily be presented every year.

CHBA Student Carpentry Award

CHBA has been involved in a variety of projects with teachers and students in high school carpentry programs.  Students who have become involved with CHBA have benefited from hands-on skill development. It is important to recognize the CHBA commitment to those learning the carpentry trade. At the CARE Awards, CHBA will present a deserving student with “the tools of the trade”.  The award consists of carpentry equipment of the student’s choice to a value of $500.00.

This award is open to students from all Vancouver Island secondary schools with a Carpentry Program. Each school will be sent application forms for students to enter this special competition.  In order to be considered, the student must:

  • Be registered within the past 12 months in a recognized Carpentry/Woodworking/Career Prep. Program;

  • Have a good record of academic achievement;

  • Have performed documented school or community service or volunteer work;

  • Each application must have a teacher’s comment attached;

  • The winning student and instructor must attend the CARE Awards in October 2007.

CHBA-Victoria Post-Secondary Carpentry Awards

During the past several years the Canadian Home Builders' Association – Victoria has sponsored three Camosun College Awards.

  • Carpentry Entry Level Award

  • Carpentry Entry Level Training Instructor's Choice Award

  • The Carpentry Apprenticeship Award 

These awards recognize the top graduating student in the Entry Level Training Programs. Although the Awards are presented at Camosun College in the spring, CHBA – Victoria will also recognize the recipient of this award at the 2007 CARE Awards.

Best Apprentice

CHBA has been involved with the Apprenticeship Program in BC and feels the importance to honour one of its members Apprentices who has demonstrated a sustained dedication and commitment to his/her work and the industry; provided outstanding customer service; and demonstrated excellent skills.

This award is open to Apprentices who are currently employed by a CHBA member on Vancouver Island. Please contact the CHBA - Victoria office for an application. This award will not necessarily be presented every year.

Excellence In Creating Housing Affordability

This award will be given to organizations that have shown the greatest leadership in fostering cooperation between public and private sectors in addressing housing affordability issues. Entry will be judged on initiatives between any level of government and industry including developing plans or strategies taken to improve affordable housing; reduction or streamlining of the regulatory process; innovative public/private partnerships; initiatives that address growth management and promote livable higher density housing; innovative solutions that provide additional choice and add quality of life for consumers.

This award is open to all Vancouver Island CHBA members. In order to nominate an organization for this award, please submit a letter outlining the criteria stated above and other achievements of the organization to the CHBA - Victoria office. This award will not necessarily be presented every year.
