Message from the
President of CHBA-Victoria,
CHBA is comprised of 8,000 members across Canada. Locally, our 180 members extend from the Cowichan Valley to Sooke, including the Saanich Peninsula and Salt Spring Island. Approximately 80 of these are home builders and renovators providing employment for thousands of trades and suppliers. Our strong residential housing market offers the opportunity to train young people in important skills for the future. CHBA works with education and government to address the critical skilled trades shortage - a shortage that is anticipated to extend for a decade or more due to the large number of retiring baby boomers. It is important for young people to identify a career path in our industry, and to that end, we look forward to the BC government introducing legislation that recognizes education and training as an essential part of being a Licensed Residential Builder in British Columbia. CHBA offers courses on the new Building Code, energy efficient construction, project management and many other areas because our members recognize that professional home building means constant learning. Through CHBA, our members can keep up to date on technology, regulations, products and materials, and other changes in the housing marketplace. For example, programs like "Built Green™ BC" provide greater energy efficiency, healthier indoor air, and preservation of natural resources. In an era of global warming, "Built Green™" homes offer the consumer a more environmentally friendly option. CHBA-Victoria members believe in giving back to the community. In 2006, we raised $5,000 for Santa's Anonymous, and won the People’s Choice Award for the second consecutive year at the Festival of Trees fundraiser for the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. In addition, we are a founding sponsor of the Goldstream Chum Program, which sends school children to the annual salmon run and we work with the Young Life group on their Home Design and Renovation Tour to send young people to summer camp. We promote home building excellence through our annual CARE Awards, which you can see at www.careawards.com. We also run Vancouver Island’s favourite Home Shows March 7, 8 and 9, and our fall show to be announced at a later date, at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. The members listed on this website are dedicated to home building professionalism, and to improving Greater Victoria for future generations. When you hire a CHBA professional, you are making an excellent investment in your home and in your community. Feel free to contact our office for more information at 383-5044 or at info@chbavictoria.com. Yours sincerely,
Steve Copp |
