Wednesday, June 13
Ambrosia Catering Centre
Reception: 6 pm
Dinner: 7 pm
Speaker: 8 pm

Our guest speaker is Kevin Evans. Kevin is the newly appointed Chief Operating Officer of the BC Industry Training Authority, which is responsible for industry skills training. Be sure to reserve your seat by calling the office at 383-5044 or email info@chbavictoria.com.

HOMEOWNER PROTECTION AMENDMENT ACT - BILL 34

The BC government has introduced the HP Amendment Act, Bill 34, which enables the HPO to require education and training before obtaining the designation of Licensed Residential Builder. The bill also creates more stringent criteria under the owner-builder exemption. CHBA-BC has been working on this for some time, with support from CHBA-Victoria. We will continue to make this issue a priority to ensure the education and training standards represent professional home building practices.

   RAINSCREEN

HPO's Building Envelope Guide for Houses is now available online at http://www.hpo.bc.ca/store/store.aspx

The cost of this document is $55 and was developed as a result of the BC government's decision to require mandatory rainscreen (capillary break) for single-family homes.

  2007 CARE AWARDS

The Call for Entry is out and the deadline is June 29. Get those great residential housing and commercial projects the recognition they deserve! The office has arranged “All-In-One CARE Awards” entry packages again this year. Your photography, project statement and submission is all taken care of for you – how much easier can it get! All of the details are at www.chbavictoria.com - click on the CARE logo!

A special thanks to our new Gold CARE sponsor, Slegg Lumber for stepping up to support the CARE Awards and CHBA - Victoria.

The income from this event helps promote education and training and professionalism in our industry. Working with CHBA-BC, we have contributed significantly to the introduction of
Bill 34, which will create stricter regulations and enforcement for owner builders, and make education and training a requirement to obtain the designation of Licensed Residential Builder in BC.

We have also been very involved with CHBA-BC in developing policy for BC's Modernization Strategy which we expect will create a central authority to address multiple local interpretations of the Building Code.

A big thank you to all of our 2007 CARE Awards sponsors:
Gold: BC Housing, Built Green™ BC, BC Ready-Mix Association/Cement Association of Canada,
Coast Capital Savings, McLaren Properties Ltd., National Home Warranty Programs,

  2007 ANNUAL FUN GOLF TOURNAMENT

It was another great day for golf! If you ask any of the record 160 golfers, they would have to agree, CHBA-Victoria's Annual FUN Golf Tournament on May 9 at Olympic View golf course was one of the best to date!

The weather was perfect, the golfers enjoyed the play, the dinner was delicious and everyone went home with a prize or two!! Thanks to the great staff at Olympic View Golf Course who ensured everything ran smoothly!

This year we were very fortunate to have a special guest join two of our foursomes –
Jim Rutledge, PGA Pro!  The Steve Copp Construction Ltd. had the highest bid in the
“Golf with Jim” auction which earned them an hour on the driving range, with Jim’s expert instruction, lunch with Jim in the clubhouse and they started at Hole #1 and played their first 3 holes with Jim – what a great experience! Our second place bidders, the National Home Warranty Programs foursomes enjoyed Jim’s company for 3 holes on the course as well! Thank you Jim!! Funds raised will go to the Goldstream Chum Program!

Congratulations to our winning teams – 1st place went to the team from Ocean Concrete Supplies Ltd. with their secret weapon, Glen Neuman! For the second year in a row, 2nd place went to Tracey Lamoureux from Creative Spaciz and her guys, Cam Pringle, Cadillac Homes, Paul Lacterman and John Price. 3rd place winners were the guys from Tedford Overhead Doors – way to go!!

Everyone who bought a “Golfers Survival Bag” also helped raise funds for the Goldstream Chum Program, sending school children to Goldstream Park to see the salmon run –
Thank you!

The Golf Tournament could not happen if not for our event sponsors and all of those who donated funds and prizes for our prize table! Thanks for your support! Looking forward to next year!!
